In my last post, I reviewed Swerve Sweetener. For details of what this product is exactly and my review on flavor and performance, check here.
As promised, I am reviewing their newest product, Swerve Brown. It is their version of brown sugar.
I won’t rehash all the facts about Swerve, you can check that out in my last post.
I received a free package of Swerve Brown at the GFAF Expo in order to try it and give my opinion.
Ingredients:
erythritol, prebiotic oligosaccharides, vegetable glycerin, fruit juice concentrate (for color) and natural flavors.
Brown:
- looks like brown sugar
- packs like brown sugar
- tastes very close to brown sugar
- it is the equivalent of light brown sugar, not dark brown.
Use it 1 to 1 for brown sugar in a recipe.
Today I tested it in cookie recipes. I made grain-free chocolate chip cookies, as well as gluten-free pfeffernusse.
You can’t tell it isn’t brown sugar. The cookies tasted great.
I was very pleased with this product and plan on using it often. Next, I plan on trying it in some crumb topping.
PROS:
- it’s just like brown sugar
- substitute 1 to 1
- no calories
- no impact carbs
- keto-friendly
- diabetic-friendly
CONS:
- not readily available yet
- expensive
- not quite as sweet as brown sugar, but close
Where to buy:
