“Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left…Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.” Matthew 24:40,42
I made my seed purchases today. I have some seeds left from last year as well. I plan on starting cool season crops earlier this year.
I also need to start figuring out how to make a sturdy fence around the garden to keep the deer out that can also be taken down at the end of the season for easy clean up and preparation access.
So what am I planning for this year?
Perennials that should be returning this year are

- blueberries
- raspberries
- strawberries
- parsley
- rosemary
- savory
- lavender
This year I am going to start cool weather crops earlier. I purchased some cold weather protection. I was going to make a cold frame. The panels are priced decently, but the shipping is a killer. Hmm…I’ll have to keep looking.
I will be starting the follow seeds. Some will go in the ground and some in containers. All of these can be grown in containers if necessary!
- leaf lettuce (red leaf, oak leaf, green leaf, red romaine types)
- spinach
- chard
- broccoli
- honeydew
- cantaloupe (3 varieties)
- thyme
- white eggplant
- purple eggplant
- sweet potatoes
- tomatoes (2 varieties)
- sweet peppers
- zucchini (2 varieties)
- dwarf pak choy
- snow peas
- chocolate mint
- butternut squash
- radishes (3 varieties)
- potatoes (3 varieties)
The cool weather vegetables will be started earlier and some will likely be near done by the time the warm weather ones will be planted in the garden or at least by the time they get big. Then, in the fall I can plant another crop of cool weather vegetables as the summer ones finish.
Yikes, that seems like a lot, now that I look at it written down. How will I fit all this in my garden? 🤔
No idea.
BTW- I might have purchased too many potatoes, strawberries and raspberries for my space. 😌 I also tend to plant too many seeds. If you are local to me and would like any of these should I have surplus, give me a shout and I will let you know what I have left, when the time comes.
