“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,” 1 Peter 2:2
🐿Nuts and seeds are very nutritious. They are full of protein, the healthy kind of fats, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and more.
🐿Dairy milks contain antibiotics and hormones. Plus, as we age we lose our ability to digest lactose well. Dairy milk also contains casein which many people are sensitive to.
🐿Commercial varieties of non-dairy milks have been shown to be made with very few nuts.
🐿There are added ingredients you don’t need and may not be healthy for you. These ingredients can include emulsifiers, thickeners, stabilizers, etc. The following ingredients are found in many milks.
- Carrageenan
- Locust bean gum
- rice protein
- calcium phosphate
- cane sugar
- natural flavor (which can be almost anything)
- xanthan gum
- non-gmo canola oil
- calcium carbonate
- sunflower lecithin
🐿You can decide what you want in your milk. Which additives do you want? None? That was my feeling. Some sweetened vanilla milks contain up to 16 grams of sugar! You can control how much or little sugar goes into it.
🐿The stores only carry limited options. You will have a greater variety of options when you make it. You can create your own designer milk just the way you like it. Combine ingredients. Mix it up.
What can you make milk from? So many options!
Nuts
- almonds
- pecans
- walnuts
- cashews
- Brazil
- macadamia
- hazelnuts
- pistachio
- coconut
- etc
Seeds
- pumpkin
- sunflower
- hemp
- sesame
- flax
Grains and other
- rice
- quinoa
- oat
- millet
- tigernut
Is it cheaper?
🐿That depends. If you buy small amounts and use organic nuts, it will be more expensive. It also depends on the nuts you use. Clearly, there are cheaper and more expensive nuts. To make it more cost effective, buy your nuts/seeds in bulk. Only buy organic when necessary. Mix less expensive and more expensive ingredients. But let’s face it, nothing healthier for you is cheaper.
Best of All
🐿You will gain a strange sense of accomplishment knowing you can make your own healthy milk.
