Product Review: nutpods Dairy-Free Creamer

Updated October 2018

Did you ever want the creamy tastiness of a dairy-free creamer without all the sugar or undesirable chemicals? Nutpods has the answer to that.

Unlike non-dairy creamers which are allowed to contain small amounts of milk in the form of casein (not lactose), this one is actually dairy-free.

Unfortunately, with most flavored creamers comes quite a bit of sugar. Normally, I just use unsweetened nutmilk or seedmilk in my coffee. I don’t really like my coffee sweet. However, on some occasions I like a little sweetness in my coffee, but I find the presweetened creamers to be too much.

I found nutpods, made from coconut and almonds, and was curious. I wasn’t sure how it would taste unsweetened. I tried the pumpkin spice variety, since it’s pumpkin season. It’s creamy. To my surprise, it had a nice flavor even unsweetened.

It mixes in smooth. No separation or curdling in sight.

The appeal of nutpods to me is that you can customize your sweetness level as well as use your preferred sweetener.

This is great if you have different tastes in your home. My children like a little sweetness in their coffee so they can add as much sweetener as they like. I prefer none. This eliminates the need to buy separate creamers.

If you limit your sugar intake or just want the flavor, as I do, this may be a good option for you.

Not only can you use Nutpods in your coffee and tea, but it can also be used in baking as well as cooking savory foods since it is unsweetened. You can use it in recipes for smoothies, mashed potatoes, creamy soups, quiche, gravies, oatmeal, etc.   Recipes with Nutpods

Cons:

  • Dipotassium phosphate (less than 2%)- used to keep it from curdling or separating when added to coffee. While this is regarded as being safe in such small IMG_8271 (1)amounts*, it would be better not to have it.
  • Only available in limited stores. It likely needs to be purchased online. I purchased mine online. I did see it at Shoprite. Only the french vanilla flavor. They now carry it at Wegmans. I’ve seen the refrigerated version, but not the shelf stable one.
  • They come in 4-packs. You can’t just buy one. The cold one is sold individually.

*Larger amounts over a long period of time can be harmful to the kidneys. An example of larger amounts would be athletes use it as a supplement for recovery.

  1. These look great but unfortunately are not available in the UK, unsweetened Almond milk is good for Tea/Coffee and Soya for cereal. More and more products are coming onto the market for Vegans and that can only be a good thing.
